Social Experiment

Living in a country like Bangladesh, has its challenges when it comes to fashion. The general consensus seems to be 'FIT IN' or 'BOLLYWOOD'. If there is too much of an experimental essence in ones outfit (purely form personal experience), it can lead to a lot of stares and strange questions or one can even be labelled 'out-of-touch'. All in all, its mostly about fitting in while standing out?

However, there's a very small niche of menswear enthusiasts, but then again they vary in style, from athleisure to oversized to tailored outfits. But even in that niche, its usually very safe in design but very loud with colour and fabrics, leading to everyone looking the same, albeit in different shades of blue. The audience for details and experimentation, are very very low. And have I mentioned loafers? They are an epidemic.

Anyway, back to the point, because of the weather here (mostly warm and extremely humid), suits or jackets are not very practical. Which is why men have made an uniform shirts and trousers, which is practical but very boring.

Which is why,  recently i started to experiment with my trousers, with their fit, waist length, etc etc.

Going through my instagram feed, I realised many Italian gentlemen, like the Guardi brothers (amazing shoes!, check them out), or Alessandro Ferrante (a maestro in relaxed Italian tailoring), have been wearing these trousers, in the picture above, which I would say is an understated extravagance. The detailing is excellent and out there, but at the same time subtle in a strange way, helping it make a strong statement.

As for personal taste, even though relaxed tailoring is all the rage, I am still a fan of fit and streamlines. So, I tried to combine the two and the results are:

As you can see, I did tweak the design (hoops and all) a little differently, but in all honesty, these are one of the most comfortable pair of trousers Ive had in a while. The fit is perfect, the colour is divine and the fabric (light and stretch) is perfect for the humid, warm weather. I will have to add though, it did get a few stares but honestly who gives a shit. I will also be sharing  various other designs, I have been experimenting with, in the coming weeks.

THUS, in the ocean of 50 shades of blue and mid length trousers, its the small details that can help one to stay afloat.

Let me know what you think, in the comments below!
